Labor Day Weekend

We had a great week last week! On Tuesday evening we went to a BBQ and the Owls game for my work. Tyler and I met there, and I had planned to go to his softball game afterward because I normally can’t go since I’m at Young Women. The clouds were really gray and heavy in the direction of the softball fields so I opted out and went to the gym instead. It poured really hard for a bit! On Thursday night we invited my dad, Katelyn, Jocelyn and Leigh over for chicken tacos and to the Kenny Loggins concert! I surprised my dad with tickets. Hearing “Return to Pooh Corner” takes me back to my childhood immediately. I remember long drives up to Washington for family reunions listening to Kenny Loggins in the car. Jocelyn and I would be in the back and put up blankets in the windows pretending we were on a train. The concert was incredible.  We had a few kinks at the beginning because it was so crowded that we couldn’t find spots to sit next to each other! After the opening band sang we were able to adjust and sit by at least my dad and Katelyn! Kenny’s voice was  so good and it was a lifelong bucket list dream fulfilled for me.

On Friday night we went over to the Parcells house for dinner and watched the BYU game. Lindsay and Jay were there opening all of their presents from their wedding. They just got back from Hawaii! I grilled zucchini from our garden and we had taco salad. On Saturday morning, Rachel hosted a baby shower for her sister Emily who is having a baby boy. Kate Spade sent her a bunch of plates, glasses and silverware. The shower was outside with pretty tables set up with flowers everywhere. There was a lemonade table, omelet station and waffle station. We each got a necklace with our initials as the party favor as well as macaroons. It was an incredible shower unlike anything I have ever been to! After the shower, Tyler and I did some work around the house and the yard then went grocery shopping. We got Chik Fil A for dinner and ate it at a park. We then saw Malefacent with my mom and Steve where of course we got lots of popcorn J

The next day we went to church then headed to my grandma’s house for BLT’s straight from the garden. We put our stuff into Steve’s truck and headed to his cabin in Salina. My mom, Katelyn, Steve and Tyler and I drove down together.  When we got there, we hopped on the 4 wheelers and headed to his daughter’s inlaws cabin where Tatum and Matt were. We got them and then went a fun ride. We went to the cabin afterward and put together tinfoil dinners and berry cobbler. The dinner was delicious and Sloane, Tatum and Matt’s daughter, kept us very entertained the whole night. She is such a doll! We played card games after we ate. The next morning we woke up and went zip lining on this huge zip line that Steve made. It was a blast! Poor Steve hurt himself though because he brought up a chair zip line thing and forgot to give it back to Ty on the 4 wheeler so he rode it down. He had never done it before and it was way faster than normal and he was in a weird position so that he slammed into the pole at the bottom and then couldn’t hold onto the rope so it gave him rope burn and Tyler had to pull him in. I felt so bad! Tatum and Matt came to chat for a bit then we had lunch and went on a really fun 4 wheeler ride to see the coal mine and see this man’s grave that had been struck by lightning! There is a big monument in the middle of nowhere for him. We packed up and headed home and stopped at Costa Vida on the way home. It was SUCH a great weekend. I think that getting away from technology and being with people you love is so important. It was so refreshing. I really needed it. Great weekend!
